Wow, that was fun. I had a catastrophic disk failure which took out not only the main PotSW site, but also a whole bunch of other stuff. This happened while I was just about to leave on a business trip, followed immediately by a family vacation, so I didn''''t have much time to work on it. (More...)
This was vastly complicated by the fact that I had thought I was making useful and proper backups of the site. But as fate would have it, my backups weren''''t sufficient. So I had to prevail on a friend of mine to use his considerable hardware-fu to coax the dead drive back to life one more time (literally) and retrieve information off of it. We got very, very lucky. I just can''''t tell you how lucky.
Honestly, I thought it was all gone for about a week: this site, the mailing list, the archives I have, the old stuff, everything. But it''''s not. Happily, everything seems to have been restored intact.
The mailing list IS coming back; I just haven''''t got majordomo working on the new server just yet. There are still so many other things broken that it''''s just a matter of having enough time. I''''ll be driving back from vacation all day tomorrow, so getting the site up tonight is the best I can do for a couple of days. So enjoy!
